Yes, we are accredited through the IALDS, International Association of Learner-Driven Schools
Students celebrate the mastery of tools, skills, and character by earning badges, assembling portfolios, and taking part in public exhibitions. Public exhibitions allow students to present work to experts, customers, or the public for a real-world test. Parents use our online platform JourneyTracker and the school app (with permission from their learner) to monitor progress in Core Skills like reading, writing, math, and character development. Electronic and hard copy Portfolios capture rough drafts, photos, videos, and other creative work.
Our eagles learn to research questions, think critically and solve problems independent form adult input. They can admit when they don’t know something and figure out a solution with the resources and tools they've been given. Eagles eagerly participate in discussions, and strive for mastery. ---We all love when we are good at something!
At Monserate Christian Academy, we believe in the power of balance. Using the incredible, self-paced, and adaptive eLearning tools now available, we are able to provide the rigor needed for learning math, vocabulary, spelling and grammar in about 90 minutes each day, while freeing up the rest of the day for engaging, project-based learning. The two are highly complementary.
Yes! Our founding families will have the opportunity to be a part of our first class of Monserate Acton graduates. We plan to launch a middle school in 2024 and a high school in 2026.
We operate on an 11 month calendar. Our flexible program allows families to travel together during the year, without sacrificing education. Each session is 6-7 weeks with 1 week off in-between with the month of August off.
Students create and sign a Contract of Promises describing how each individual will act and the consequences for violating community standards.
Mentor teams encourage younger and older students to listen, affirm, set goals and hold each other accountable.
Badges celebrate character development and completion of leadership challenges
It puts learning at the center, both socially and academically. The young eagles benefit because the older learners help teach the younger by modeling more sophisticated, complex problem solving and critical thinking. The older eagles benefit because they master leadership, clear communication and teaching skills.
Acton graduates headed for university will not only have badges that translate into a diploma and transcript identical to those issued by top college prep high schools, but they will also be able to present a substantial portfolio of work and professional reference letters from several apprenticeships.
